A man has been formally charged with the murder of a two-year-old girl after her body was discovered at a residence in Chertsey. The authorities responded to a call concerning safety at an address on Pyrcroft Road around 17:40 BST last Thursday.
Kevin Kerjean, aged 31, faces additional charges including the rape and sexual assault of a child under 13. He is scheduled to appear at Guildford Crown Court on the following Monday. It is worth noting that Surrey Police initially stated the victim was three years old. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death is still ongoing, but police have confirmed that they are not seeking anyone else in relation to this case.
Police described Kerjean as a French national, originally born in the Central African Republic. Detective Chief Superintendent Jon Groenen commented on the situation, saying, “This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the child’s family, as well as all those who knew her.” He further added, “Our teams are working hard to build a picture of what happened, and a significant police presence will remain in Pyrcroft Road over the coming days.”
In the aftermath, several floral tributes appeared at Syward Place, an apartment complex situated at the intersection of Pyrcroft Road and Bell Bridge Road. Groenen acknowledged the community’s feelings by stating, “We appreciate that the incident itself, as well as the significant police presence, will be concerning for residents,” and expressed gratitude towards them for their cooperation during the investigation
