A teenager aged 14 has appeared in court facing a murder charge following the discovery of a body believed to be that of a missing girl. The remains were found on 22 June in Duffryn Park, located in Blaina, Blaenau Gwent. Although formal identification is pending, authorities suspect the body is that of Lilly Jones, who is also 14 and had been reported missing.
The young boy, who resides in the Blaenau Gwent area and cannot be named due to his age, attended a hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Monday. The brief session lasted 21 minutes, during which he only confirmed his personal details, including his name, date of birth, and address.
During the court appearance, he was dressed in a short-sleeved white shirt and accompanied by three prison custody officers along with a supporting adult. Notably, his mother gave him a kiss as he left the dock. Following the hearing, he was remanded to secure youth accommodation.
A plea and trial preparation hearing has been scheduled for 24 July. The trial itself is set to begin on 23 November and is expected to continue for four weeks
