Sarah Ferguson's charity formally closes down

Sarah Ferguson’s charitable organization, Sarah’s Trust, has officially ceased operations and is now listed as “removed” on the official public register of charities. This closure follows an announcement made in February, when the charity stated it would be suspending activities “for the foreseeable future.” This decision came shortly after new revelations surfaced regarding Ferguson’s association with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Earlier this year, the US Department of Justice released over three million documents, including emails that appeared to show correspondence between Ferguson and Epstein during the period he was imprisoned for soliciting minors. It is important to note that simply being mentioned in these documents does not imply any illegal conduct. Attempts by the BBC to reach Ferguson’s representatives for comments about the charity’s shutdown have not yet been successful.

Founded in 2020, Sarah’s Trust was focused on supporting grassroots initiatives aimed at tackling humanitarian and environmental crises, as well as addressing hunger and the persistent cycles of extreme poverty. A spokesperson for the charity explained in February that the decision to shut down came after extensive discussions spanning several months. However, no additional reasons for the closure were provided at that time.

The document release also cast new light on the nature of Ferguson’s relationship with Epstein. Among the emails, Ferguson referred to Epstein in 2009 as “the brother I have always wished for.” Further correspondence suggests that she took her daughters to have lunch with Epstein in Miami shortly after his release from prison. While Ferguson’s representatives have not commented on these documents, she has faced consequences linked to her association with Epstein. Several charities have distanced themselves from her, and in October, she lost her duchess title following her ex-husband Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s decision to renounce his Duke of York title due to his own Epstein connections.
