Baby girl and three people die after car hits trees on Derby A38

A tragic incident occurred on a busy dual carriageway in Derby, where a car collided with trees, resulting in the deaths of four individuals, including a baby. The crash involved a red Hyundai that left the A38 near the stretch between the A50 Toyota Island and the A516 at around 11:00 pm on Saturday.

According to Derbyshire Police, three passengers in the vehicle—a baby girl, two women aged 18 and 30, and a 36-year-old man—lost their lives. The baby was initially taken to the hospital but sadly passed away shortly after arrival. The driver, a 33-year-old man, sustained serious injuries and was also hospitalized. Following the incident, he was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

All those involved in the collision are reported to be from Leeds in West Yorkshire. The police confirmed that family members have been notified and are receiving support from specialist officers. A spokesperson expressed condolences, stating, “Our thoughts are with them at this most distressing time.”

The crash caused the closure of the carriageway for several hours while emergency responders worked at the scene, but the road has since reopened. Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the accident or who may have dashcam footage to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation
