Scot James, aged 34, from Maesteg in Bridgend county, passed away in hospital on Sunday following an alleged assault in Turkey that occurred earlier in July. Scottish authorities are currently probing the circumstances surrounding the incident with assistance from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). James had been transported back to Wales by air ambulance on Friday, 24 July, but sadly died two days later at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Talbot Green, Rhondda Cynon Taf.
His family released a heartfelt tribute to James, describing him as a “devoted” father whose kindness and loyalty left a lasting impact on many lives. They emphasized how deeply loved he was by all who knew him, highlighting his warm heart, great sense of humor, and natural ability to unite people. In their statement, the family expressed their profound grief, stating, “No words can truly express the pain we are experiencing or the void his passing has left in our lives,” while also affirming that his memory will be forever cherished.
Describing him further, the family highlighted his roles as a son, grandson, brother, partner, father, uncle, and friend, all of which he embraced with dedication and love. They extended their gratitude for the “overwhelming support” and kindness shown by friends and the community during this difficult time. Additionally, the family thanked everyone involved in Scot’s care and those who stood by them throughout this tragic ordeal.
Maesteg Celtic RFC, the rugby club close to Bridgend where Scot played, also expressed their sorrow via social media. They conveyed their condolences to his family and friends and remembered James as “an outstanding player and a great character and friend by everyone who had the pleasure of sharing the field with him.” The club concluded their message with a poignant farewell: “RIP Scot.
