Tweed, who was once married to Goody before she tragically passed away from cervical cancer at the age of 27 just weeks after their wedding in 2009, addressed the court regarding his situation. He expressed, “I’m not making excuses, I’ve been through some trauma in my life, other stuff that led to me having depression and anxiety.” He went on to explain his struggles with sleep and the reasons behind his decisions. “I can’t sleep at night, I’d found having a little bit of that helps me sleep through the night and that’s what I was doing.”
He admitted to having used something the previous night to help with his insomnia, acknowledging it was a mistake to drive afterwards. “I had some the night before to help me sleep again… stupid decision, I drove in the morning when I shouldn’t have.” Tweed, from Buckhurst Hill, Essex, was dressed in a black top during the proceedings and revealed that he currently works as an electrician. Regarding his earnings, he mentioned, “my income varies and is maybe £3,000 a month.”
In his statement, Tweed highlighted the efforts he has made to improve his life without relying on drugs for sleep or stress relief. “I’ve been working on myself, I’ve found other things to help myself get through situations and sleeping that doesn’t involve drugs.” He further stressed the importance of maintaining progress in his life, warning that a ban on driving would only cause setbacks. “I do work to keep my life in the forward motion – if I get banned it’s just going to go backwards. I apologise, I’m sorry.”
The court proceedings also revealed Tweed’s previous legal record, which includes seven prior convictions for 14 offences. Among these was a 2007 conviction for driving while over the legal alcohol limit. Ultimately, Magistrate Andrew McGregor decided to impose a statutory driving disqualification on Tweed for a period of 12 months
