Almost a month after the tournament ended, Carrington returned to Holy Trinity Tattoo Studio in Standish to have the phrase “just joking!” added underneath the original tattoo. Despite the change, Carrington expressed no regrets about the initial decision to get the tattoo, saying, “I wouldn’t have done anything differently.” He described the new addition as “sound” and mentioned that he “didn’t really feel it,” indicating his satisfaction with the modification and the process.
The tattoo studio’s manager, Jamie Taylor, revealed that the correction would typically have cost around £100, but the studio chose to add the phrase free of charge. Carrington also reflected on his approach to tattoos generally, stating that he doesn’t plan them in advance but rather decides spontaneously when an idea comes to mind. When asked about the possibility of more football-related tattoos in the future, he did not dismiss the idea.
