During a recent police operation targeting antisocial driving in central London, authorities confiscated 90 vehicles, including a rare Ferrari valued at approximately £3.7 million. The Metropolitan Police conducted the crackdown over the weekend, seizing cars in the areas of Kensington, Chelsea, and Hyde Park. The total worth of the impounded vehicles exceeds £8 million, with officers focusing on illegal, uninsured, and dangerous driving practices.
One of the notable vehicles taken into custody was a Ferrari Monza SP2, a highly exclusive model with only 499 units ever produced by the Italian manufacturer. This particular car had been in the UK for just one day before police stopped it. The driver was found to have held only a provisional license and was driving without insurance, having been behind the wheel for less than 30 minutes.
Authorities employed laws that permit immediate seizure of vehicles used in antisocial ways, bypassing the usual step of issuing a prior warning in 15 cases. Special Chief Inspector Geoff Tatman, who oversaw the operation, explained the motivation: “We regularly hear from local people who are fed up with people driving cars dangerously in the area, or with modifications which make them a nuisance to those who live nearby.” He emphasized that removing these vehicles aims to improve road safety and discourage reckless driving.
In addition to the vehicle seizures, the police made several arrests. One individual was apprehended on suspicion of handling stolen goods and money laundering after officers discovered 19 bank cards in other names and over £2,500 in cash. Another man, initially stopped for driving without insurance, was arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs with intent to supply. Two further arrests involved allegations of behavior likely to cause harassment or distress and an immigration-related offence.
