South East Water says supplies restored to about 7,400 Kent properties

South East Water (SEW) has announced that drinking water services have now been reinstated to approximately 7,400 homes across Kent, where residents had been facing either no water or reduced pressure. The disruption, impacting over 8,000 customers in total, was attributed to a combination of factors including sustained hot weather, increased demand, pipe bursts, and power-related problems.

Service restoration has been completed in areas such as Herne Bay, Rough Common, and Blean. Despite this progress, SEW has advised all customers to limit their water use to essential needs only. Meanwhile, around 400 properties in Benenden, Cranbrook, and Rolvenden continue to suffer from low or no water pressure. Additionally, supply interruptions could still occur intermittently in Herne Bay later on.

Mike Court, SEW’s incident manager, highlighted that the water storage tanks serving Benenden, Cranbrook, and Rolvenden remain at “critically low” levels. He emphasized the importance of conserving water, reiterating, “all customers to continue using water for essential uses only today.” This plea comes amid ongoing difficulties, with residents having been informed that it might take a couple of days before their water supplies are fully restored.

In response to the disruptions, a bottled water station has reopened in Cranbrook, recognized as one of the hardest-hit locations along with Benenden. Many residents in these areas have endured several days without reliable water access, underscoring the challenges posed by the current situation
