Earl Spencer should pull Diana book, Piers Morgan says

Piers Morgan has demanded that Earl Spencer’s memoir about Princess Diana be withdrawn from sale because of a significant factual mistake. The book, *Swan Song: Diana, My Sister*, mistakenly identifies Morgan as the editor of the Daily Mirror at the time the paper published intrusive photos of Princess Diana working out in a gym in 1993. In reality, Morgan did not become editor of the Mirror until 1995 and was working at The Sun when the images appeared.

Earl Spencer, who is Princess Diana’s brother and the author of the memoir, has issued an apology to Morgan for this error. A spokesperson for Spencer confirmed that his assumption was incorrect and emphasised the importance the Earl places on historical accuracy. Spencer has apologised directly to Morgan and promised to correct the inaccuracy in future editions of the book. Penguin, the publisher, is reportedly preparing to amend this detail.

Morgan has publicly stated that while he appreciates the apology, it is not sufficient. Speaking to the BBC, he explained that his legal team will seek removal of the erroneous pages from the book, even if that means destroying initial print runs. On his show, *Piers Morgan Uncensored*, he read out the passage where Spencer wrongly claimed Morgan’s involvement in the controversial publication of the photos. Morgan described his legal intentions as a way to prevent false claims about public figures from remaining unchallenged in published works. He added that he is pursuing damages to be paid to the King’s Trust.

The controversy surrounding *Swan Song* extends beyond this dispute. The book also includes allegations surrounding King Charles, accusing him of having said “we’ll forget her soon enough” concerning whether Princes William and Harry should participate in Diana’s funeral procession. Buckingham Palace strongly denied this claim, suggesting that grief can distort memories and influence judgment, even many years later. Meanwhile, reports have emerged that Prince Harry is considering a documentary about his mother, possibly marking the 30th anniversary of her death next year.
