Anti-migrant activist Daniel Thomas charged after dinghy slashed in Channel

Daniel Thomas, an anti-migrant campaigner, faces charges of criminal damage following a video that reportedly shows him cutting a dinghy in the English Channel. The 37-year-old, who is also known by his supporters as Danny Tommo, has been further charged with refusing to provide the PIN for his phone, according to Hampshire Police.

Currently held in custody, Thomas is scheduled to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court via videolink on Friday. The police confirmed these details as part of their ongoing investigation.

On Thursday evening, a crowd of several hundred people, many dressed in black, gathered outside a police investigation centre in Basingstoke under the impression that Thomas was being held there. The demonstration began peacefully just before 18:30 BST, with protesters positioning themselves on the road and chanting “free DT”.

The assembly started to break up around 21:45 after information about the charges against Daniel Thomas was made public. Despite the confrontation, no incidents of violence were reported during the protest
