On Saturday evening, the full Moon, often referred to as the Harvest Moon, illuminated the skies across the UK, delighting many with ideal viewing conditions. This particular full Moon has earned its name due to its link with the traditional harvest season when crops are gathered. The Moon reached its peak fullness at 17:49 BST, but its spectacular glow was most vivid once the night sky darkened.
Photographers from across the country shared stunning images of the scene through the BBC Weather Watchers project, capturing the Moon’s beauty from various locations. One striking photo from Buckinghamshire showed the Moon partly veiled by blue clouds with a plane flying in front, creating a memorable moment from both the air and the ground. Another dramatic shot from Northern Ireland cleverly depicted the Moon seeming to tumble down a staircase, with a silhouetted building enhancing the illusion.
Further images highlighted the Moon’s enchanting presence in diverse settings. In north Yorkshire, the golden orb rose perfectly framed by ancient ruins in Whitby, while in Essex, the Moon’s glow emerged delicately through broken white clouds near a windmill.
