Police name three teens who died when car entered River Wear

Police have identified three teenagers who lost their lives after the vehicle they were traveling in plunged into the River Wear. The incident involved a black Audi A3 that veered off the road at Panns Bank near the Wearmouth Bridge in Sunderland shortly before 1:30 PM BST on Tuesday.

Among the four occupants in the car, three tragically died. The victims have been named as 17-year-old Jackson Duke, along with 16-year-olds Luke Etheridge and Zara Shaw. Jackson and Luke were both residents of Sunderland, while Zara came from Houghton-le-Spring.

A 17-year-old male passenger managed to escape the submerged vehicle and reach safety. Following the event, he was taken into custody on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
