The family of Anton Green, a British man who had been missing in Colombia, have been informed that a body has been found in connection with his disappearance. Anton, originally from Manchester, had been residing in the South American nation for two and a half years but ceased communication with his loved ones in August.

His relatives, based in Whalley Range, were told that a body believed to be that of the 43-year-old had been located. This heartbreaking news arrived shortly after the family had intensified their efforts to locate him, leaving them devastated and struggling to come to terms with the situation. A spokesperson from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) confirmed that authorities in Colombia had found the body of a British man.

Anton’s family emphasized that his sudden lack of contact was highly unusual. His mother, Nylva McKie-Williams, recalled that his last message to her in August was “we will speak at the weekend.” Speaking to BBC North West Tonight, she highlighted how Anton normally stayed in close touch, making the silence particularly worrying. In the search efforts, footballer Marcus Rashford publicly supported the appeal, referring to Anton as a “family friend.” Anton’s brother Ro-Shaun Williams had been part of the Manchester United youth squad alongside Rashford.

His sister, Sian Tuohey, described Anton as a “happy, decent guy” who had settled in Colombia after travelling there. Fluent in Spanish, he had recently relocated to the Fontibon district in Bogotá before losing contact. According to reports, police informed the family early on Thursday about the discovery of the body. The family now awaits further updates from the Attorney General’s Office in Bogotá. Meanwhile, an FCDO spokesperson stated, “We are aware of the death of a British national in Colombia and are providing support to their family.”
