Police probe video of officer hitting youth with handcuffs in Speke

A video has emerged showing a police officer punching a boy multiple times—in the stomach, chest, and throat—before handcuffing him and dragging him from the ground to a police van. In the same footage, another teenager is visible being pulled off the ground as officers make an arrest.
The incident took place on the evening before Halloween, a night locally referred to in Liverpool as “Mischief Night.” Following the release of the video, a complaint was filed on Saturday, prompting the police force to announce that its professional standards team will investigate the matter thoroughly.
In a statement published on their official website, the police urged the public to refrain from speculation and to avoid spreading rumors or misinformation while the investigation is ongoing. They emphasized the importance of establishing the full details surrounding the event before drawing conclusions.
A spokesperson for the force highlighted their commitment to maintaining order during times of known heightened disturbances, saying, “We are determined to protect our communities from the sort of appalling behaviour that we historically see at this time of year.” They further stressed their strong stance against criminal activities, adding, “We have a contempt for criminality and a commitment to cracking down on people committing serious offences in Merseyside.
