Liverpool City Council is set to introduce the Liverpool Young Futures Apprenticeship Programme, offering 29 paid apprenticeship positions for young residents. This initiative aims to enable participants to earn a wage, acquire new skills, and lay the foundation for their future careers while positively contributing to the community.
The application window opens on 13 August 2026 and will close at 11:59 pm on 1 September 2026. Apprenticeships are available in various fields such as marketing, digital content creation, ICT, environmental health, emergency resilience, housing, parks and green spaces, health and social care, and venue operations. Participants will receive the real Living Wage and work towards nationally recognised qualifications while gaining valuable practical experience.
Eligibility for the programme is extended to Liverpool residents aged between 16 and 20. Additionally, young people up to age 24 who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or are care experienced—including eligible care leavers residing outside the city—can also apply. The process is streamlined by requiring only a single application, allowing candidates to express their preferences for specific roles during later stages of recruitment.
Liverpool City Council currently employs around 60 apprentices and 25 graduates across multiple sectors. The Liverpool Young Futures Programme builds on this foundation by creating further opportunities specifically aimed at young people embarking on their careers. This scheme reflects the Council’s broader dedication to improving local employment prospects, fostering life-enhancing opportunities, and developing a skilled workforce for Liverpool’s future. A drop-in event will be held at Liverpool Town Hall on 19 August 2026 from 10 am to 12 pm, where interested young people can meet hiring managers, explore the roles available, and ask questions about applying.
