West Yorkshire Police have confirmed the identity of a 16-year-old girl who died in Leeds, leading to the launch of a murder investigation. Officers responded to a call at Kennerleigh Avenue in Austhorpe early on Saturday morning at 05:55 GMT, where the teenager was found unconscious on the street. She was immediately taken to hospital with severe injuries but tragically passed away shortly afterwards.
The deceased was from the Cleckheaton area, and her family has been informed of the incident. The police have assured that specially trained officers are providing support to the grieving family during this difficult time. Meanwhile, four individuals have been arrested on suspicion of murder. These include two women aged 18, a 20-year-old man, and a 17-year-old boy, all of whom remain in police custody as inquiries continue.
Detective Chief Superintendent Marc Bowes made a public appeal following the identification of the victim. He expressed sympathy for the family and emphasized the ongoing need for community assistance, asking anyone who was near Kennerleigh Avenue in the early hours of Saturday to come forward with any information that could help the investigation.
