A recent investigation conducted by the BBC has uncovered evidence that cocaine and cannabis are being sold openly in High Street convenience stores across the West Midlands. The inquiry involved undercover researchers who visited various towns, including a shop known as Cradley Market, where illicit drugs were reportedly available for purchase.
During the operation, one of the researchers engaged with Akwa, an employee working behind the counter at Cradley Market. Within moments, Akwa provided 3.5 grams of cannabis for £30. He openly offered a range of drugs, stating, “I’ve got weed, coke, everything. Whatever you want, I can sort you out,” and subsequently sold cocaine to the undercover operative.
When questioned about these sales by Ed Thomas, the BBC’s UK Editor, Akwa denied any involvement with drug dealing. He claimed he was unaware of what was being alleged and requested that the BBC team leave the premises.
In response to the findings, the Home Office confirmed that the government is collaborating with law enforcement bodies, including the police, the National Crime Agency (NCA), and Trading Standards, to enforce strict measures against criminal enterprises. Meanwhile, West Midlands Police emphasized their commitment to partnering with relevant agencies to address issues related to illegal drug sales, crime, anti-social behavior, and disorder in the community
