Newport murder investigation after woman found dead after altercation

Authorities have initiated a murder investigation after a woman was discovered deceased following an incident on the street. The police deployed specially-trained firearms officers to a residence on St Vincent Road in Newport during the early hours of Saturday.

Paramedics attended to the woman shortly afterward, but she was pronounced dead nearby on Chepstow Road in the city. Her identity has not been officially confirmed at this time.

In connection with the incident, a 66-year-old man from Newport has been taken into custody by law enforcement. He remains under arrest on suspicion of murder as the investigation continues.
