Three drugs arrests after man dies at campsite near Royal Welsh Show

Authorities have taken three men into custody on suspicion of drug-related offenses following the death of a 25-year-old individual in Powys. The tragic event occurred Saturday night near a campsite close to the Royal Welsh Showground at Llanelwedd, Builth Wells. Despite the quick response and efforts by paramedics, the young man could not be saved.

Temporary Chief Superintendent Steve Davies described the situation as a “tragic incident” and conveyed condolences to the deceased’s family during this challenging time. He emphasized that the death is currently being treated as unexplained and reassured the public that this appears to be an isolated case with no evidence pointing to a wider public threat.

The incident comes just ahead of the Royal Welsh Show, which is Wales’ largest annual agricultural festival and is scheduled to start on Monday. Davies highlighted that there was no ongoing risk to attendees or residents in connection with this event.

Richard Church, the cabinet member for a safer Powys on the Powys council, expressed his sorrow over the incident, calling it “deeply sad.” He stressed that ensuring the safety and well-being of locals, visitors, and everyone attending the Royal Welsh Show remains a top priority.
