In a conversation last June with British businesswoman and podcaster Emma Grede, Meghan reflected on her Netflix lifestyle series With Love, Meghan, and hinted at a possible return to acting when asked if she missed that part of her career. “Sometimes,” she admitted. “Being back on set with With Love, Meghan was great because I realised how much I miss my crew. I love being around a crew.” Despite this, Variety’s chief correspondent Marlow Stern suggests that any decisions about Meghan taking on new acting roles are largely influenced by logistical factors. “A lot of it has to do with scheduling, to be honest,” Stern explains. “They’re maybe also negotiating the size of the role and how many days she’ll shoot, and also compensation for it. Both sides often play the media to try and push things along, and we could be seeing that.”
Meanwhile, the focus for Harry upon returning to the UK will center on the philanthropic efforts and patronages he has maintained despite the geographic distance. Before his upcoming departure, he completed his last charity commitments in the United States. During a visit to Washington DC, Harry met with military veterans and their families and toured Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre, the leading hospital for injured American service members. He also paid respects at Arlington National Cemetery, a site that holds the graves of many servicemen and women who lost their lives during the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts—wars in which he served two operational tours. One poignant moment was his visit to the grave of Sergeant Michael Verardo, who passed away last year due to complications from injuries sustained in Afghanistan in 2010. There, Harry met Verardo’s widow Sarah, who now supports other military families, along with their daughter Elizabeth, age nine.
The couple will retain their multimillion-dollar residence in Montecito, California, located roughly two hours north of Los Angeles. Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, who has played a significant role in caring for her grandchildren, will continue living in the state. The family plans to make regular trips back to the U.S. and also spend time at their recently purchased holiday property near Melides, Portugal. This new home is situated near the property owned by Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank, who have remained close allies during the ongoing royal family tensions. However, it remains unclear to what extent Harry, Meghan, and their children Archie and Lilibet will be involved with the broader royal family moving forward.
Over the coming months, several important royal events are scheduled, including Remembrance Sunday at the Cenotaph, the Princess of Wales’ Carol Service at Westminster Abbey, and Christmas celebrations at Sandringham. Whether invitations will be extended to the Sussexes for these occasions is yet to be determined. Trust issues persist within certain factions of the Royal Household, characterized by cautiousness, wariness, and even some hostility. Decisions on the Sussexes’ participation in royal duties remain a “work in progress.” Harry and Meghan’s representatives have described their return to the UK as taking place “for an extended period of time,” though this is not necessarily a permanent move. The intention seems to be to allow their children to become better acquainted with their grandfather, the King, while avoiding disruption to their education. The upcoming months will test Harry and Meghan’s appetite for life in the UK, gauge public response, and challenge the royal family’s ability to maintain their responsibilities amid any potential distractions
