Aunt who died in Middlesbrough house fire was 'beautiful soul'

A tragic house fire in Grangetown, near Middlesbrough, claimed the lives of Natalie McDonald, 34, and her seven-year-old niece, Valentina Foster. The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, leaving the community in shock and mourning the loss of two young lives. Natalie’s mother described her daughter as a “beautiful soul, who would have done anything for anybody,” emphasizing the deep impact Natalie had on those around her.

Alongside the fatalities, a 48-year-old woman remains in critical condition in the hospital, according to Cleveland Police. Three other individuals also sustained injuries in the fire, but their conditions are not life-threatening. The police have responded swiftly, arresting two men aged 23 and 31 on suspicion of murder, and both are currently in custody as the investigation continues.

Lisa Kirton, Natalie’s mother, spoke to the BBC about her daughter’s character, describing her as “lovely, bright and bubbly” and someone “everybody loved.” Kirton also revealed that Valentina, known as Tina, had been spending her summer holidays with the family. Reflecting on the young girl’s death, Kirton expressed disbelief, saying, “I can’t believe it, seven years old – it’s just a disgrace.”

In the midst of the tragedy, there was a narrow escape. Natalie’s 15-year-old daughter and her friend managed to get out of the house by breaking through an upstairs window. Kirton credited the friend’s quick thinking and courage, saying the friend “kicked out a window” and “had saved their lives.
