E-bike crime crackdown leads to 187 arrests in Westminister

The Metropolitan Police have conducted a major enforcement effort targeting repeat offenders who utilize e-bikes and mopeds to commit thefts within Westminster. This initiative resulted in the arrest of 187 individuals and the confiscation of 157 vehicles linked to criminal activities.

Those detained faced charges covering a range of offenses such as carrying dangerous weapons, involvement in drug-related crimes, robbery, and theft. Both undercover and visibly uniformed officers strategically patrolled areas identified as hotspots, focusing on known suspects. These operations took place over a period spanning from February through July.

Leading this campaign, Detective Superintendent Gareth Gilbert emphasized the proactive approach taken by law enforcement. He remarked that the police were “staying one step ahead of the criminals who use high-powered bikes or mopeds to steal from Londoners,” highlighting the continuous effort to disrupt these crimes.

As a result of these targeted efforts, the Metropolitan Police reported a 22% reduction in e-bike-related offenses within critical transport and tourist locations, particularly across Southwark and Lambeth, including major areas such as Waterloo and London Bridge
