Baxters fish soup cans recalled over fears they could ‘swell and rupture’

Baxters has issued a recall for its Chef Selections Cullen Skink soup, a smoked haddock chowder, due to concerns over a possible manufacturing defect. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has warned that affected cans may spoil, causing them to swell and potentially burst. Customers who have purchased this product are being advised to dispose of the cans carefully in outside bins.
The recalled item is specifically the 400g cans bearing the batch code L07XC, with a best before date of April 2029. According to the FSA, the soup may develop an unpleasant odor and taste if it has gone off. Consumers in England, Wales, and Scotland have been strongly cautioned against consuming the soup, and instead urged to discard the cans without opening them.
In their safety guidance, the FSA instructed consumers to “carefully place the full can in a bag and dispose of it in an external bin.” Those who wish to receive a replacement are encouraged to reach out to Baxters’ customer care team via email at ccuk@baxters.com for assistance.
Baxters, originally established in 1868 in Fochabers, Moray, is one of Scotland’s most recognizable food producers. It continues to operate as a privately-owned family business, currently under the leadership of Audrey Baxter, a member of the fourth generation of family ownership
