Thousands watch elaborate Bridgwater Carnival cart procession

A vibrant illuminated carnival procession recently took place in Bridgwater, Somerset, featuring a variety of captivating themes. Among the highlights were scenes inspired by rock concerts, the iconic Del Boy along with his three-wheeler from *Only Fools and Horses*, and a traditional circus big top, all contributing to a dazzling display.
The event draws thousands of spectators each year, with local clubs dedicating the entire year to crafting the intricate carts showcased during the procession. This level of commitment highlights the significance of the carnival within the community.
Dan Prosser, a member of the Renegades Carnival Club, described the extensive preparations as being “more like a lifestyle than just a hobby.” He also shared that those outside the carnival world often find his enthusiasm “absolutely nuts,” underscoring the passion and dedication required to participate.
The carnival concluded with a dramatic ritual known as squibbing, involving 210 participants, including Bridgwater’s local MP Sir Ashley Fox. During squibbing, large fireworks are secured to blocks of wood attached to poles and ignited, providing a thrilling finale to the festivities
