Liverpool’s premier music talent development initiative, LIMF Academy, is gearing up to expand on over ten years of achievements with the launch of its 2026-27 programme. This new phase introduces fresh opportunities tailored for emerging artists alongside a special celebration marking the Academy’s tenth anniversary.

Since its inception in 2014, the LIMF Academy has become a prominent force in the UK’s artist development landscape. It has supported more than 80 core artists while involving upwards of 4,500 music creators across the Liverpool City Region. Through over 220 workshops and guidance from more than 100 industry professionals, the Academy has played a pivotal role in advancing the careers of acts such as Jalen N’gonda, Michael Aldag, XamVolo, Ni Maxine, KOJ, Tonia, The Kowloons, and DJ Hannah Lynch of Girls Don’t Sync. Many alumni have successfully secured record label and distribution agreements, earned national accolades, and expanded their reach to international audiences.

As Liverpool continues to thrive as a UNESCO City of Music, the LIMF Academy stands as an essential component of the region’s musical ecosystem. It actively creates pathways for upcoming artists, dismantling barriers that often hinder access to the music industry. The upcoming programme is structured around three core strands, each designed to support talent at varying stages. The LIMF Academy Rise Programme will offer three selected Liverpool City Region creators intensive support, including grants, mentorship from seasoned creatives, coaching by Basil Reynolds, industry-focused development sessions, performance showcases, and customized career progression assistance.

Additionally, the Academy will run YES WE ARE! Part II, a collaborative initiative aimed at empowering 12 female songwriters, musicians, and producers from across the area. In partnership with the Ivors Academy Trust and with support from PPL Giving, participants will collaborate in a Liverpool studio, attend a tailored industry day in London, and perform at a live event back in Liverpool. Rounding out the programme is LIMF Academy Orchestrated, a marquee project commemorating the Academy’s ten years. This event will unite four Academy alumni with the Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company’s session band and orchestra to present original compositions and specially arranged pieces by composer Katie Chatburn, highlighting the achievements and influence of the Academy and its artists over the past decade.

Councillor Harry Doyle, Liverpool City Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Culture, emphasised the importance of the Academy: “For more than a decade, LIMF Academy has helped bridge the gap between grassroots creativity and the music industry, giving talented artists from the Liverpool City Region access to the networks, opportunities, and expertise they need to build sustainable careers. What makes the Academy so special is its commitment to championing diverse and under-represented voices while proving that world-class artist development doesn’t have to be centred in London. It has become a nationally recognised model for nurturing talent and helping artists take the next step in their careers. The 2026-27 programme builds on that legacy. By continuing to invest in emerging musicians, songwriters, and producers, we’re ensuring the Liverpool City Region remains at the forefront of music innovation, creativity and opportunity, supporting the next generation of artists to fulfil their potential and showcase their talent on a regional, national and international stage.”
