Little Heath Playing Fields set for £400,000 facilities boost

Approval has been granted for the enhancement of Little Heath Playing Fields in Speke, marking a significant step forward in a £400,000 investment dedicated to improving this well-loved community sports venue. These developments come as a result of Liverpool City Council’s careful consideration of input gathered from the clubs, players, and local residents who regularly use the site.

The planned improvements include the construction of a new changing room building, the addition of storage containers for sports equipment, and expanded bathroom amenities for visitors. This comprehensive upgrade aims to better serve everyone who visits or participates in activities at the playing fields.

Funding for the project is being sourced through Section 106 contributions, which are payments made by developers as part of planning agreements. These contributions are intended to support community infrastructure and ensure new developments positively impact the surrounding neighborhoods. With financing secured, Liverpool City Council is preparing to start the tender process to select a specialized contractor to carry out the work, anticipated to begin early next year.

To reduce inconvenience, the refurbishment will be implemented in several stages, allowing the sports pitches to remain accessible and in use for teams throughout the duration of the project. Councillor Harry Doyle, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing, and Culture, emphasized the importance of the site, stating: “Little Heath is an important community space, which is used every week by both adult and youth football teams, so we’re delighted that planning permission has now been secured for these improvements.” He further highlighted that community feedback has been key in designing upgrades that will benefit players, coaches, volunteers, and visitors alike, while keeping the fields fully operational during the work
