The remains were found by members of the public, prompting Nottinghamshire Police to establish a cordon close to 3 p.m. on Saturday to secure the site.
Forensic experts remained at the location into Sunday as part of the ongoing inquiry, while one lane of the eastbound carriageway was closed with cones to assist the operation. Detective Inspector Matt Scott confirmed the remains are thought to belong to a single individual, though the identity has not yet been determined.
Detective Inspector Scott acknowledged that news of such a find might cause unease within the community but reassured the public that there is no threat to their safety. He emphasized that a dedicated team is actively working to identify the person and uncover the circumstances surrounding their death.
The investigation is being conducted with an open mind, and police intend to keep the scene secured for several days while continuing their work. Residents can expect a heightened police presence throughout the Bank Holiday weekend and into the following week. Authorities have invited anyone with information or concerns to come forward and thanked the community for their understanding and patience during this ongoing inquiry
